1. Follow a simple routine:

For you to even begin talking about following a routine, the first step is to know your skin type. So, do you know your skin type?

It is particularly important that you know your skin type if you want healthy and flawless skin. It is what helps you when deciding which products to settle for and what skin care regimen will work best for you. There are various skin types, but the major ones are: dry, oily, combination, normal, acne-prone, and sensitive.

Once, you have discovered your skin type, get a cleanser, toner and moisturizer that suits your skin. Then apply twice a day (Morning and Evening). Follow this simple routine and check out the results weekly.

2. Exfoliate your skin

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the outer layer of your skin.

As cool as it sounds, the process can quickly turn awry if not done properly or handled by a professional.

Again, knowing your skin type is important. This is because every type of exfoliation may not work for every skin type. So, it is important to consider your skin type before choosing an exfoliation method.

Things to note about the different skin types before going for exfoliation:

  • Sensitive skin may sting or burn after product use
  • Normal skin is clear and not sensitive
  • Dry skin is flaky, itchy or rough
  • Oily skin is shiny and greasy
  • Combination skin is dry in some areas and oily in others

If truly you want to make your skin look better, you need to understand that when you don’t exfoliate your skin, the dead cells keep accumulating on its surface thereby making it look dull and patchy. You can use a physical exfoliator (face scrubs) or a chemical exfoliator (acids and enzymes) for the process. However, be careful not to over exfoliate your skin.

3. Don’t Joke with Sunscreens

So, what are sunscreens? They are used to protect the human skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Sunscreens help us to prevent against sunburn and premature aging. They have also been proven to help reduce the risk of skin cancer etc.

Although you may have heard this a million times by now, well don’t blame us. We are only looking out for you.

Protecting your skin from the UV rays is important. Never forget to apply sunscreen before heading out. Use one with at least SPF 30 and PA+++ (or PA++++) as it protects you from UVA and UVB rays. Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours when you are outdoors.

4. Monitor Lifestyle habits

Following a good skin care routine religiously is important but monitoring your lifestyle habits is more important because your skin cannot look good on the outside if it does not feel good from within.

Tips:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Exercise often: sweat it out
  • Take more vegetables and fruits
  • Sleep well (at least 7 hours of sleep daily)
  • Wash towels, pillowcases, and bedsheets often.
