First we would want to look at the word exfoliation…. Exfoliation involves the removal of the old / dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface. 1. Manual exfoliation is when you physically scrub your skin. This includes the use of micro beads , microdermabrasion ,pumice / apricot scrubs etc

2. Chemical exfoliation may involve the use of products that contain alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), beta hydroxy acids (BHAs), or enzymes that act to loosen the glue-like substance that holds the cells together, allowing them to ease away. Chemical peels, retinol creams, salicylic / glycolic based products are all classified as chemical exfoliators Why should we exfoliate? Exfoliation is essential for healthy and younger-looking skin.

Why? During our day to day lives, dead skin cells build up on the surface of our faces. If we neglect to clean our skin well, old makeup, dirt, and oil can also join the mix. This causes pores to become clogged and the condition of the skin to worsen over time.

The best way to get rid of this build-up is to exfoliate. We should also note that exfoliation is not limited to the face only, we can and should exfoliate our body too .

A nice steam session will soften the body and prepare the skin for exfoliation using either sugar , salt scrubs etc I know the thought of taking off dead skin sounds good ( out with the old in with the new ) everyone wants that fresh glowing skin but in the process of exfoliation we have to be careful not to over strip the skin , many people tend to accumulate so much products without balancing them out especially products that all have very active ingredients , over exfoliating will lead to redness , excessive flaking and may thin the skin out .

It is advisable to scrub the face and body 1-3 times per week
