Lighter, Brighter Skin: The Magic of Hydroquinone

Sometimes an uneven complexion has nothing to do with your skin’s health—the over-production of pigment is to blame. This can be extremely frustrating for those who desperately want to even their skin out—but there is something that can help: Hydroquinone, the active ingredient in the ILUMA intense bleaching serum and IMAGE MD reconstructive lightening creme.

In the past, most skin lightening products—at least those that weren’t prescribed by a doctor—were largely ineffective (and some were even outright scams).  This has made many people distrustful of lightening products in general.  But hydroquinone is the real deal. It is possible to have lighter, brighter, more even skin!

What is Hydroquinone?

Hydroquinone is one of several names used for the organic compound C6H4(OH)2. This compound, when absorbed by the skin, helps to block the skin’s ability to produce melanin. Melanin is the culprit behind darker areas of skin like freckles, age spots, or hyperpigmentation during pregnancy.

It’s gentler on skin in terms of dermatitis than previously prescribed skin lighteners and more effective as well.

How Do I Use Hydroquinone?

It depends on the concentration and the type of product, of course.  Most serum formulations, including our own, are recommended for daily or twice daily use.  We suggest using our bleaching serum morning and evening.

Our reconstructive lightening crème, on the other hand, delivers its main ingredients over a longer period of time, so it can be applied once a day. We recommend an evening application to allow the crème to work overnight.

How Fast are the Results with Hydroquinone?

When you use quality hydroquinone products like IMAGE’s, you may very well see lightening of uneven pigmentation almost immediately! Some people can notice results within hours; of course, there is some variation and others may begin showing results after a few days or a week.

What Side Effects Should I Expect?

Side effects aren’t common, and we lower the potential even more by adding soothing ingredients like tea tree oil to our products. It’s always a good idea to test a product on a small area of skin first, however, in the unlikely event of an allergy.

If you’re eager to rid yourself of hyperpigmentation, hydroquinone is one of the best tools available for the job!
